In 1993 I was introduced to Canadian singer and songwriter Bobby G. Griffith through Arnie, the drummer I had previously played with in Freedom Rains. Bobby was looking for a backing band for a series of performances around Ontario, and I joined him on bass and backing vocals.

Bobby already had a long career in the Canadian music business. Originally from Manitoba, he had performed professionally from a young age and later worked as a singer, songwriter, recording artist and producer. During the 1970s he became associated with Lawrence Welk's Teleklew Productions, and among his best-known recordings were “The Sound of Peace,” “The Badger's Song” and “Give My Love to Lady Canada.” The latter became one of his most successful Canadian releases.

By the time I met Bobby in 1993, he was looking to put together a band to perform his material around Ontario. We played a circuit of Royal Canadian Legion halls and other local venues, performing songs from his recording career along with other material in the show.

For me, this was quite a different musical experience from the original rock bands I had spent much of my life playing with. This time I was part of a backing band supporting an established Canadian recording artist whose professional career stretched back several decades.

I played with Bobby during 1993 and 1994, and I feel fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with him during this later chapter of his career.
