Like several musicians I played with during this period, I first met Frank Gardner at Maxwell’s Mix, the musicians’ jam and rehearsal venue at Yonge and Sheppard in North York.
Frank was a guitarist, singer and songwriter who was writing and recording his own original material. We connected musically, and I began playing bass on a number of his songs. Together with Rick Gardner on keyboards and Mike Morrow on drums, we had several informal recording and rehearsal sessions in Frank’s basement.
These weren’t polished studio recordings. They captured us working through songs, experimenting with arrangements and simply enjoying playing music together. Fortunately, I kept many of those recordings, and listening to them now provides a great snapshot of that period in my musical life.
The collection below includes Frank’s original songs, some covers and several extended jams from those sessions.
