1992–2010 – MIDI & Home Recording
By the early 1990s, MIDI technology was opening up an entirely new way for me to write and record music. For the first time, I could compose complete arrangements at home, creating individual parts for drums, bass, keyboards and other instruments without needing a full band or an expensive recording studio.
In 1992 I bought a Korg X5 MIDI keyboard, which became the centre of my home MIDI setup and remained an important part of my songwriting for many years. It gave me the freedom to experiment with arrangements and develop musical ideas whenever inspiration struck.
Over the years I accumulated an archive of more than 300 original compositions and musical ideas. Many remained unfinished sketches, while others developed into complete songs and instrumentals.
The recordings below are some of the more completed pieces, originating from the 'OG' MIDI compositions that I wrote from this period. Together they document a different side of my musical life — not as a bass player in a band, but as a composer, arranger and home-recording musician.
